How to Get the Perfect Body – A Layman’s Guide

By Hugh Campbell We all dream of getting the perfect body. Of course, the “perfect body” is just about the most ambiguous term in existence. Bodybuilders consider themselves the height of aesthetic perfection, whereas many others consider their look to be inflated and distasteful. So if you want to know how to get the perfect body, the first thing to bear in mind is that there are hundreds of different plans to establish hundreds of different aesthetic looks; to this extent, ensure you don’t go for a “general” fitness plan. However, there are some general rules we can establish straight off the bat. First of all, we must understand the significance of the term “weight”. Often we’ll hear people who are delighted because they have lost 10 lbs in “weight”. This is not good — on the contrary, it is often very bad form. “Weight” actually comprise of two composites — fat and muscle. If we crash diet and lose 10 lbs, then we are losing a combination of muscle and fat. So why is this bad? Well, it is good to lose fat, but you want to keep as much muscle as you can. A lot of people, particularly women, get intimidated by the thought of muscle; not everybody wants to look like a Russian shot-putter. However, rest assured, it is incredibly difficult to gain muscle; in fact, it is much harder for women to gain muscle as they severely lack the testosterone required. A much better way to look at muscle is to consider it the framework of your body. Muscle is what gives you shape. The amount of muscle you have in your body can be measured by your body fat percentage. Let me try and give an example of how drastically different fat is from weight: I could crash diet from 190 lbs to 165 lbs, but in terms of sheer body shape, I will have gone from a “big pear” to a “smaller pear”. If I got my weight down to 165 lbs whilst retaining muscle, then my body shape would go from “big pear” to “inverted triangle”, which is much better. Fat stores itself in all the worst places — the bottom, the stomach, the love handles. If you merely lose weight, then a lot of the fat will remain in place. If you just lose fat and maintain muscle, then you will see the unsightly fat start to disappear. Have you ever noticed how you can get down to an “ideal weight”, yet still have fat on your stomach? This is simply because you haven’t made a concerted effort to maintain your muscle and burn off the fat. If you bear this principle of fat vs. muscle in mind, then you will undoubtedly be in a much better position to get the perfect body. Now that you know you need to maintain your muscle, you will also realise that you simply must do resistance training to keep your muscles in-tact; you can use weights or calisthenics to achieve your goal. As the saying goes, “use it or lose it!” Knowing how to get the perfect body isn’t a trade secret, so long as you are fully aware of the main principle of maintaining muscle and burning fat. Simply losing weight is not good enough if you want to achieve the perfect body. And remember that it is very hard to gain muscle, so if you lose muscle during a crash diet, it will be tough labour to make it grow back again, giving your body that wonderful frame that you desire. When The Scales Won’t Budge

By Wayne Mcgregor If the weighing scales don’t seem to move does it really mean I’m not losing any fat at all? If body weight has not been lost it doesnt necessarily mean youre NOT losing any fat from stores. We receive some emails explaining how dieters are exercising more and reducing calories but the scales dont seem move for weeks. There are a few reasons as to why this can occur, so let us explain a few of these in details to try and ease the mind. 1. As most people are aware when we first start any new exercise the muscles involved adapt over the first few weeks by becoming stronger, a strength increase often leads to a gain in muscle mass. Its possible to gain 2-3 pounds of lean weight within a few weeks without noticing any change in musculature. These new gains in lean mass can mask any loss in body fat, especially if youre only losing fat at a rate of 1-2 pounds per week. Its also possible that initial muscle gains could overtake any fat loss and the dieter sees the scales actually go up! This is one reason why weighing scales are NOT the best method to test weight loss results; it may be more accurate to check fat percentage by using fat monitors. Realistically the dieter should keep to their workout schedule as any initial lean muscle gains will slow once muscles adapt to the exercise. At this point fat loss should begin to speed up because greater lean mass will increase the metabolism and enable the weight to start to reduce. Exercising to lose weight is king, so stick with a regular exercise plan! 2. Another change is an increase in blood volume. Hard working muscles need a greater supply of oxygen in order to maintain the work rate. Our body adapts by increasing the blood volume so a greater amount of oxygenated blood can be delivered to exercising muscles. 3. Regular exercise increases carbohydrate stores in the muscles (Glycogen) enabling the muscles to hold more energy for the next time you perform the exercise. Greater glycogen stores within the muscles causes the body to draw in more water to aid the storage; again this process will add some additional weight, although exactly how much depends on the type of exercise (anaerobic exercise tends to produce a greater Glycogen storage) and the present diet of the individual, specifically the carbohydrate intake. In theory however, if one is following a low calorie diet the carbohydrate intake may not be high enough to produce large glycogen storage. 4. Another consideration if the scales dont seem to be moving is you could be gaining back fluids lost from initial weight loss. When we lose weight it is inevitable that we will also lose some fluid caused by loss of muscle glycogen, protein / muscle loss or general fluid loss through sweating more – a gradual replacement of these fluids again could be masking any possible further losses in body fat stores. Fat is actually a relatively light but dense source of energy. A fat loss of one pound is a huge loss of energy, as much as 3500 calories. For this reason losing fat will often take longer than the adaptations which occur to new exercise, so any exercise regime should be thought of as long term in order of months, NOT weeks. If the scales dont seem to be moving DO NOT worry or think youre wasting your time. Obtain exercise advice from a qualified instructor and stick to it. Every few weeks adjust the diet and/or tweak the exercise plan to burn more calories. Wayne Mcgregor has written hundreds of articles on ways to lose weight. Chiropractic Versus The AMA

By Michael Russell For many years, chiropractors were labeled as quacks by the established medical community. Only in recent years have medical doctors started to work with chiropractors instead of having a confrontational relationship with them. The basic theory behind chiropractic is that subluxations are the cause of many, if not most, medical problems. Subluxations are defined as misalignments in the spine or other skeletal structures that may cause blocked and impaired nerve functions. The idea is that if a chiropractor realigns the spine then normal nerve pathways will be restored and good health will be the result for the patient. However, there is no scientific evidence that supports these theories and this is why medical doctors were opposed to chiropractic. All the studies made in support of chiropractic are basically testimonials from patients. The chiropractor aligns the patient’s spine and the patient “says” he feels better. Whether or not the alignment is the direct and only cause of the patient’s restored health has not been scientifically established. In the 1970s the American Medical Association (AMA), which is the main governing body for medical doctors in the USA, officially condemned and labeled chiropractic as a cult and quackery. The AMA actually had a section in its written Medical Code of Ethics that prevented medical doctors from associating with chiropractors in any way, shape or form. Also, the AMA’s Committee on Quackery was working hard to discredit chiropractic by preventing coverage and recognition in all federal and state government agencies. The chiropractors, in return, sued the AMA claiming that the condemnation restricted free trade, and they won the lawsuit. Lawsuits between the AMA and chiropracters continued throughout the 1980s culminating in a Supreme Court decision in 1990 that supported an earlier decision that found the AMA guilty of illegally boycotting and conspiring against the chiropractic profession. The lawsuits didn’t establish the scientific validity of chiropractic medicine but they did allow chiropractors to continue their practice without medical doctor interference. Despite improvements in the relation between medical doctors and chiropractors since then, chiropractors are still not a normal established part of the medical staffs at hospitals and medical clinics. Chiropractors usually work out of their own buildings and organizations separate from medical doctors’ facilities. Occasionally a doctor will refer a patient to a chiropractor and vice versa but there is no clearly established working relationship between the two. Part of the problem is that the established medical profession has for many years been opposed to all other alternative forms of medicine, valid or not. Science was not the real legal issue. They actively tried to contain and eliminate competition, which is against the law. The AMA has enjoyed its monopoly of the health profession industry and has zealously tried to defend it against all other approaches whether it be acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropractic or any other form of health care that does not buy into the surgery and drugs culture of the established medical community. The biggest losers in all of this unfortunately have been the patients. If a spirit of cooperation and learning had been fostered between doctors and chiropractors instead of antagonism there would undoubtedly be a much stronger infrastructure today for providing health care to patients. When Should You Call Him? When to Call After a Date

By Gerry Restrivera Have you ever found yourself wondering whether you should call him or not? Women are made to believe that they must never make the first move when it comes to dating. There is general belief that men can be turned off when women are aggressive. Therefore, the question introduced in the beginning of this article is reasonable and women should know when to call after a date. Every woman has been in that situation, wondering when to call after a date. They are afraid that when they call the men they are dating or interested in would immediately give them the label that they are flirts or easy. So many women have asked for advice regarding this matter. Is it alright to call men? They are afraid that there are consequences on calling or not calling. Its hard to tell really whether this move can make or break the relationship. Women should know when to call after a date as this is very critical when you are still on the dating stage. First and foremost, you have to really out some thought on phone calls with men and must know when to call after a date. Most women believe that they have the right to say or do anything that they are thinking of doing. In fact some of them think that it is alright to call the man they are dating ten times a day because they feel like doing so. Women usually dont give it a much thought on when to call after a date. They just do it and call. But these women will eventually realize, after a series of failed encounters or relationships, the painful yet truthful realization that yes, calling a man matters. These are the very issues that can either break or seal the deal of a relationship. Women should know when to call after a date. When to call after a date is quite crucial in a relationship. By understanding the methods involved and following the tips, then you can actually comprehend the effect this action has on a man. If you call at the wrong time, then the relationship might be weakened. But if you call at the right time, you might be expecting a string of dates to follow. We know its hard to understand how a mans mind works. We know that there is a saying that you should follow your instincts. Sadly, you also have to go with logic and reason to know when to call after a date. Notice that when you are able to understand what goes on in your mans head, then thats when instincts will turn out to be right. It takes some getting used to on how you should act and react. Keep in mind that relationships fail even in its early stages once men find the women going overboard and getting too cozy around them so early on. Women may not be aware of it but there are some actions which can push men away. These include calling men so you must know when to call after a date. A man would not tell women but tell their other friends what they really feel when a woman he does not call keep on calling him. Heres the key: how a woman handles calls can pretty much make the man want her more. Calling him first all the time can put the woman in a lower position. Traditional as it may sound but men should always initiate the calling. Always being the one to call first can send negative messages to the man. There are reasons why men dont call. You do not have to rack your brain by figuring what the answer is to that question, Why didnt he call? As an empowered woman, know that you only deserve the best and know when to call after a date. Sure, it helps that you do not have communication because it makes him miss you. Regardless, only when a man shows interest must you call. Do you want to understand the effect you have on a man when you don’t call at the wrong time, and how your relationship is strengthened when he calls you? Did you know that the way you handle calls, emails, and text messages will seriously affect how much your man wants you? College Life: Everything in Moderation

By Tracey Drake College life and all the perks that come with it should all be taken in moderation. Many students are not sure how to handle the freedom of college life. Many of them no longer have curfews and it is very easy for them to stay out late and hit every party they hear about. Most dorms have resident assistants and they try to keep track of everybody and their activities, but they have their own lives to live as well. College students number one goal while in school should be to focus on their education, but even the school makes it difficult for them to do that at times. There are many groups and clubs that students can join. These clubs have meetings and activities of their own as well. Even professors and instructors encourage students to join clubs and spend time on extracurricular activities. For some students, these activities are too much of a distraction and they live the college life without getting the college education. Students do require social interaction, but it is very easy to get caught up in what is happening on campus instead of their courses. College offers a completely different routine for many students. For many students, living with a roommate in a dorm is the biggest change of all. Children fight with their parents their whole life to have their own bedroom just so they can have their own personal space, then the next thing you know you have to share that space with a roommate when you move to college. The biggest change of all for some students is having to manage their own time. They are use to being told when and what to do. In college, there is none of this. You set your bedtime, you get up in the morning and you set your class schedule. Students should be aware of this when they are choosing classes and class times. Procrastination is the thief of time and many students fall subject to this. Students should begin by developing a schedule and should stick to it. Drinking and partying is another subject that should be considered here. These are perhaps the number one activities that students should do in moderation. College parties are open to anyone. There are many students that are underage, but they have friends who are not. Underage drinking is a huge deal and should be taken very seriously. If college students do not learn moderation in enjoying alcoholic beverages and partying, they will see a sharp down turn in their education. There is nothing wrong with a few drinks, when you are of age, and spending time out with friends, just dont do it when you have a midterm the next day. Spending money that students dont have is another important subject. Many parents will get their students credit cards when they move away from home. This only makes it harder for students to manage their money. Sure, they might need it for emergencies, but it will be very tempting to use. If they dont have the cash to spend, then they will be tempted to charge it. There are many students who live college in major credit card debt, not to mention student loan debt. Borrowing more student loan money than is necessary is another mistake that many college students make. Students should not borrow money and take out loans just because they qualify for it. Get as much as you need to pay for your tuition and books. If you only need $2,000, dont take out $5,000. You will simply end up spending that $3,000 on frivolous and unnecessary purchases. Students should also consider their eating habits while in college. Eating at the cafeteria may not be the best food in town, but at least it will be the healthiest. Many college freshmen pack on the freshman 15 during their first year of college. These students are usually guilty of too much junk food and not enough real food. Work in exercise into your daily schedule and you wont have to worry about gaining a lot of weight while you are going to college. Taking everything in moderation from partying and drinking to spending money will ensure that your college years are successful and as stress free as you can make them. Get together with your friends and talk about what you can do to save money together, but still have an active social life. The Best Ways To Treat Migraine Headache

By Javier Fuller About 40 million Americans, that is approximately 10% of the American population has experienced Migraine. The special feature of the migraine headache is that you don’t get it daily. You suffer from it once or twice in a week. Women get it three times more than men. Its attack is severe and accompanied by unbearable pain. In the extreme cases, the pain can even disable the affected person. When you have the attack of the migraine, you are very sensitive to light. You suffer from vomiting and nausea. Some migraine patients suffer from an aura. This is no divine aura. However the aura is due to a disturbance in the vision. The aura consists of sparkling and blinking lights that constantly move across your field of vision. The pain is so severe that it is natural for the migraine sufferer to seek solace in over the counter medications. The most common over the counter medications include aspirin, acetaminophen, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen. The prescribed migraine medicines are ergotamines or triptans. To counter the migraine pain in the most effective way you need to make a total treatment plan with your doctor. The plan will not only ensure that you know the ways for treating the symptoms but it will also reduce the severity and frequency of your headaches. The best method to treat migraine is to make use of a combination of treatment options. You need to follow lifestyle changes or adopt some alternative treatment methods along with the prescribed medications to get the complete headache relief. Now to use alternative methods, put an ice pack on the back of your neck at the bottom of the skull. This will lessen the blood flow to the head. You will get instant relief from the throbbing migraine pain. At the same time, put your feet in a hot water container. The principle involved is the same. Next, eat healthy food only. The foods that trigger migraine should be avoided. Fix your diet schedule in consultation with your doctor. Finding and avoiding food items that cause headache is one way to reduce the symptoms. Monitor your lifestyle patterns and eating habits. Adopting good habits such as quitting smoking, cutting on excessive alcohol intake and eating right food will definitely help you reduce your pain. Be at ease with stress and stress stimulators in your life. And have a nice sleep everyday. Confessions Of A Brisbane Search Engine Link Cloaker

By John Hacking Link cloaking is where search engines are given different pages to index than are available to web surfers. Server software detects that a search engine is visiting a particular web page and shows the search engine spider different text and keywords to what would be normally seen. Many so-called, Black Hat SEO companies use link cloaking to give their clients a competitive advantage when it comes to search engine rankings. As part of my SEO education and experimentation I purchased some link cloaking software. I have installed it on one of the sites I manage and I must say it works pretty well. I won’t tell you which site in case someone tells on me and I get banned by the major search engines. I suspect the reason it does work so well in terms of generating traffic and leads is that I have loaded it with a lot of very industry specific keywords and word combinations. I find part numbers and industry jargon words work very well. These keywords are usually in the real web site, but what the link cloaking software does is improve the keyword density by generating hundreds of pages with different keyword combinations and put the keywords in the title tags of those pages. What tends to happen is the visitor clicks on the link in the search engine results page (SERP), goes to the web site, doesn’t see what they were searching for immediately, but then uses the search facility within the web site to find the right pages. I’ve been running the cloaker software for over 9 months now and am getting better and better results. I’ve also noticed that the search engines seem to lap it up and increase the frequency of their visits, possibly because the content is always changing. Yes, most of the pages are in Google’s supplemental index. I really don’t care because even those supplemental pages generate clicks, visits and sales. A lot of SEO’s frown on link cloaking and pretend it is unethical. Te reality is that Google supports link cloaking type behaviour through it’s Adwords revenue stream. With Adwords, it doesn’t matter about the relevancy of the linked page in the ad, if you are prepared to stump up the cash to purchase some keywords you can send clickers to any page you want. If Google was serious about the ethics of link cloaking, they would make sure the landing page from an Adwords page was relevant to the search terms. Ever noticed that ebay seems to be selling exactly what you want and when you click on the ad there’s nothing relevant? White Hat, Black Hat, Grey Hat? Link cloaking does work and it’s a risk I’m prepared to take. John Hacking is Product Manager for Brisbane’s best Internet marketing firm Search Tempo. Creative Coping: What is Depression?

By John Duggan Depression is a serious illness, not a harmless part of life. As a psychotherapist recovering from a past experience of major clinical depression, I bring unique experiences to this dis-ease. I explain to clients how my experience is informed by academic study (“head” knowledge) and personal experience (empathy and “heart” knowledge.) There are many metaphors, poetic descriptions and analogies seeking to express the emotional content of a depressive experience. Perhaps one of the most vivid: “it is similar to an emotional toothache, with no hope for solace.” Any form of depression is a complex disorder with a variety of causes, including genetic, chemical, physical, and sociological. It is also influenced by behavior patterns learned in the family and by cognitive distortions. Technically, the words “depression” is inaccurate — there are many forms of “depressions” (plural). Nonetheless, all types of depression are a “whole body” concern — mood disorders impact our physiology, biochemistry, thoughts, behaviors and capacity to make clear decisions. Here’s the key; there is no shame or weakness if one lives with a mental health concern. It is important (critical) to be certain that an appropriate assessment and treatment plan is established. Like any other disease, if left untreated … it often becomes worse. Depression affects thousands of people in the United States. It is always troubling, yet for some people it can be severely disabling. Depression is more than just sadness or the blues; it can impact nearly every aspect of a persons life. People who suffer from it may experience despair and worthlessness, feelings that can greatly influence both personal and professional relationships. In this handout, many of the factors which evoke depression are described, and strategies for preventing depression are explored. When a person suffers from depression, it can affect every part of his/her life, including ones physical body, behavior, thought processes, mood, ability to relate to others, and general lifestyle. Many folks report body aches, insomnia, lack of interest and difficulty with decision (including ordinary issues, such as “What do I want for dinner?”). WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS? People diagnosed with clinical depression typically have a combination of symptoms, including: – Feelings of hopelessness, even when there is reason to be hopeful – Fatigue or low energy – Greatly reduced interest or pleasure in most regular activities – Low self-esteem – Feelings of worthlessness – Excessive or inappropriate guilt – Lessened ability to think or concentrate – Indecisiveness – Distorted thoughts and having an unrealistic view of life – Weight gain or loss – Appetite changes – Sleeping pattern changes – Recurrent thoughts of death – Suicidal thoughts – Specific plan for committing suicide – Suicide attempt – Feelings of restlessness or being slowed down When a person suffers from depression, his/her symptoms cause significant distress or impairment in family, social, and occupational relationships, as well as other important areas of life. Such symptoms are not the result of a chronic psychotic disorder, substance abuse, a general medical condition, or bereavement. Depression may include feelings of sadness but is not the same as sadness. Depression lasts much longer and involves a loss of self-esteem, which sadness does not. People who are depressed function less productivity; people who are sad or disappointed continue to function. CONCLUSION Any form of depression is a “full-body” issue. It impacts our mind, body, spirit and emotions. If you or someone you know experiences any of these feelings or behaviors, seek assistance of a qualified mental health professional. This is a medical condition which can be treated … and it’s not a sign of weakness, failure or a valid source for shame. “Creative Coping” is a series of mental wellness articles written and distributed by www.dcDiversity.com.
